Spencer Melton

Loganville Campus Student Pastor

If I’m being honest, my life has been pretty good.  I don’t have a Prodigal Son story or anything that comes close.  I grew up in a Christian home.  We went to church on Sunday mornings.  I asked Jesus to save me  at a church Christmas play when I was eleven.  It was, however, all very routine.  It wasn’t mine; it was just the culture I grew up in.  Like any other teenager I wanted to fit into the culture I was immersed in.  I was everyone’s friend.  If they were at church or at school or on the hockey rink, it didn’t matter.  I was always the “nice” guy" that wanted to be loved by everyone.  And for the most part, I was.

It wasn’t, however, until I was about twenty-years-old that I really allowed God to be Lord of my Life.  On a January 1st, on a whim, I decided I would try the "One Year Bible" my Grandmother gave for me years before as a Christmas present.  I wasn’t trying to change who I was, nor did I really have a desire to.  I just thought, “I’ve got fifteen minutes a day… let’s give this a shot”.  Over the course of this year, I read the bible every single day for about fifteen minutes.  As a result I began to pray more and going to church became less of a chore and more of a desire.  These things compounded and that summer I went on my first mission trip.   On this trip, I was poured into by leaders and got plugged in with a group of people my age who I was able to do life with.  In the years following, I was blessed to be able to serve in both Student and Worship ministries as a lay leader and later as a Pastor.

Along the way I met and fell in love with my amazing wife (Taylor). We now have two beautiful little girls (Penelope & Emersyn) that have given the word “love” a whole new meaning.  We love our Graystone family and are so excited to be a part of what God is doing here!
